The Metaverse Security Center™ is supported by Identity Management Institute to prepare the cybersecurity professionals for the fast-growing Metaverse industry that is expected to become a 13 trillion-dollar market with 5 billion users by 2030 according to Citibank.
The emerging metaverse is about to challenge our way of life and how people identify themselves, interact with one another, are entertained, and transact using smart contracts, NFT and crypto. Metaverse is the new generation of the internet comprised of immersive technology backed by widespread adoption and regulations.
With the blockchain technology at its core, Metaverse is an advanced Web3 version of the current Internet which offers 3D interaction and decentralized applications to form the next generation of digital world for everything from finance, gaming, business, and entertainment to digital property transactions with the use of NFT and crypto.
Ownership and self-custody are key enablers of Web3 metaverse, where power and control are returned to the user from the centralized platforms of today’s Web2. These new features will offer portability, ownership, and traceability with the highest levels of encryption yet with this great power comes greater responsibility for the user in private key custody, identity management, and security, to name a few.
The adoption, growth, and success of the metaverse could be confirmed by the investment that large companies are making in metaverse technologies and workforce betting that metaverse will soon become mainstream. NFT, digital art and luxury items, crypto payments, and gaming are growing annually in double digits, and this is just the beginning of what the metaverse can offer and a preview of how it will change our lives. Facebook’s name change to Meta, newborn vision, and expected hiring of thousands of tech workers by tech giants give us a glimpse of the coming digital life.
According to Henry Bagdasarian, Founder of Identity Management Institute, "Metaverse will completely change the way people live, socialize and conduct business, thus presenting new security challenges in the evolving digital world. As the new digital space takes shape to fully transition our physical world into the digital realm, experts in the field will be concerned with emerging metaverse security risks which will include new forms of security and data protection threats, identity theft, and fraud."
